Welcome to the second in our series of Matrix Online developer, designer and artist interviews. In this installment,
we asked MxO fashion designer Jeff Miller a few quick questions about his work with the game's fashion.
MxOS:
How did you become involved with designing the apparel and other fashion items in The Matrix Online (MxO)?
JM:
I was hired on as a character modeler/texturer and started making clothing based on concepts from the art director. When the concepts
ran dry I started creating my own concepts.
MxOS:
Do you have any formal training or experience in real-world fashion design?
JM:
No.
MxOS:
What would you say is unique or stands out about the fashion in The Matrix Online?
JM:
The sheer number of outfits is what most stands out in my mind. As players progress and add to their outfit, the chances of
them running into someone wearing the exact same thing are microscopic. Plus they will be able to change outfits as frequently
as they (hopefully) do in real life.
MxOS:
Other than the movies themselves, what influences your work within the game?
JM:
Even though the world of the matrix is set in the late 90’s, the fashion represented a blend of cyber punk and
1930’s high fashion. It’s as if the characters in the movie were actually wearing clothing right off some
designer’s runway, therefore I was very much inspired by cutting edge designs from today’s designers.
MxOS:
Jeff, thanks for taking the time out to answer our questions! The fashions of The Matrix Online are indeed eye-catching,
and we look forward to seeing all your work!
